Meltdown

“Meltdown” is a surreal and emotionally charged exploration of identity, vulnerability, and

impermanence. At first glance, the piece appears whimsical — a classic ice cream cone, a

symbol of sweetness rendered in soft, inviting colours. Yet a closer look reveals haunting

anthropomorphic features: the strawberry scoop stares blankly with hollow, shadowed eyes,

while the melting vanilla scoop above bears a forlorn, human-like expression, its face drooping

into quiet despair.

This unsettling juxtaposition of playfulness and melancholy compels viewers to confront the

emotional states we often conceal beneath bright, polished exteriors. The melting face

symbolises the erosion of self under emotional pressure, while the cone — a traditionally

joyful treat — becomes a vessel of silent suffering.

Set against a muted, dreamlike background, the painting captures the fragility of the human

condition. It challenges our associations with childhood nostalgia and questions the stability

of our emotional foundations in a rapidly melting world
